Money fizzles for Seattle fireworks show

April 1, 2013 at 3:44 PM   |   Comments

SEATTLE, April 1 (UPI) -- Fireworks won't sparkle and explode over Seattle this Fourth of July after funding for the event fell far short, the show's producer said Monday.

The show was canceled after only $50,000 of the needed $500,000 was raised by the deadline, Seattlepi.com reported.

One Reel, which had produced the show for 24 years, said "this is final" after the Sunday deadline expired.

Even if big donors came forward now, One Reel spokeswoman Aubrey Bergauer said, there wouldn't be enough time for other vendors such as security, fireworks and a tug and barge to get ready.
