OREGON CITY, Ore., March 31 (UPI) -- A 23-year-old Oregon woman is recovering after being rescued from Mount Hood where she was lost for nearly a week, authorities said.

Mary Owen, 23 of Newberg was found Saturday and hospitalized in serious condition with frost bite and a leg injury, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office said. She had been on the mountain since March 24.

Owen, a senior in interdisciplinary studies at George Fox University, got lost in whiteout conditions near Mount Hood's summit Sunday night, said Rachel Oliveri, a sister. After hurting her leg in a fall, Owen used a thermal poncho to stay warm but ran out of food Wednesday.

"I think she got really lucky given that we didn't know where to look," said Steve Rollins of Portland Mountain Rescue.
