HOQUIAM, Wash., March 28 (UPI) -- Police in Hoquiam, Wash., said they killed a man in a shootout Thursday following a standoff at a home in the Pacific Coast town southwest of Seattle.
The man, identified only as a 49-year-old suspect in a Sacramento felony fraud case, left the house around 6:30 a.m. Thursday and exchanged gunfire with police before he was fatally wounded, Hoquiam police Sgt. Brian Dayton said.
The shootout occurred at a home where a 53-year-old woman, whose name wasn't reported, had been arrested Tuesday on a warrant in the felony fraud case.
The man eluded arrest by giving police false ID but officers returned to the house Wednesday after determining he was the suspect they had been looking for, KOMO-TV, Seattle, reported.

When police tried to arrest the man, at around 11:15 a.m. Wednesday, he shot Officer Jeff Salstrom in the hip and barricaded himself in the house, holding police off until Thursday morning.
Salstrom, a 12-year-veteran of the police force, was treated at a hospital for what police said was not a life-threatening injury.
During the standoff, police used tear gas to try to get the man out of the house and sent two camera-equipped robots into the structure. The man shot the first robot and disabled it but police were able to determine he was using as gas mask. He disabled the second robot as well.
As the suspect came out of the house Thursday morning, he ignored police orders to put down his weapon before the exchange of gunfire began. There was no word on whether he or police fired first.
KOMO said suspect in the arrest warrant was identified as Rick Marlowe of Sacramento but the suspect killed Thursday hadn't been positively identified by mid-morning.
