Family loses passports on subway

BOSTON, March 28 (UPI) -- An Indian-born surgeon and his family from Dubai are stuck in the United States after leaving a bag holding their passports on a Boston subway train.

The backpack also held their e-tickets from Logan International Airport to Dubai and $3,500 in cash, the Boston Globe reported. But Dr. Zeeshan Khan says it is the passports that are the major problem.

"I'm just hoping some good soul finds my bag and turns in the passports," Khan said Wednesday. "I don't even care as much about the money and our tickets. The passports are the most important because we need them to travel out of the U.S."

Khan, his wife, Yasmin, and their two children were on their way to the airport Tuesday afternoon when they left the bag behind.

If they do not get their passports back, Khan said, he and his family will have to verify their identities with the Indian embassy in New York and obtain new passports from the United Arab Emirates embassy in Washington.

"To be honest, I don't know what I have to do," he said. "I am so lost right now. I don't know how to do this without any money or support."

Khan is a trauma surgeon in Dubai. He spent a month in Boston in 2009 on a fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and has been living with his family in Los Angeles.
