Police officer charged with child porn

BOSTON, March 27 (UPI) -- A Boston-area police officer facing federal child pornography charges was being held Wednesday without bail.

Paul C. Manganelli, a 20-year veteran of the Waltham Police Department, was arrested Monday at his home, the Boston Herald reported. He appeared before a federal magistrate Tuesday and was ordered held pending another hearing Thursday.

Investigators said they found child pornography in Manganelli's possession. He allegedly said he was involved in an undercover investigation, something the Waltham police said wasn't true.

In 2011, Manganelli won $1 million in the Massachusetts Lottery with a "$100,000 a year for life" scratch ticket. In addition to working as a police officer, he runs a company that provides DJs for weddings and children's parties.

Manganelli has been suspended from the police force with pay.

The FBI said the investigation that led to Manganelli's arrest began in Australia.
