Christopher Stanlane Sr., 34, was on a couch in the family home, cleaning the gun with the butt of the gun on the floor and it discharged Sunday afternoon. Christopher Stanlane Jr., sitting on the floor watching television, was struck in the head, Capt. Anthony Thompson of the Roberson County, N.C., Sheriff's Office.
Stanlane's wife, in another room, called 911. The boy was pronounced dead at Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, The Fayetteville (N.C.) Observer reported Tuesday.
No charges have been filed, and the investigation is continuing, Thompson said.
