Bus crash at N.J. base investigated

JOINT BASE MCGUIRE-DIX-LAKEHURST, N.J., March 24 (UPI) -- Investigators Sunday were gathering clues into the cause of a bus crash that injured 14 U.S. military personnel at a base in New Jersey, officials said.

Two of the victims were transported in serious but stable condition to hospitals near Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst where the military bus collided with another vehicle Saturday afternoon. A dozen others were either treated at the scene or taken to various hospitals. The extent of their injuries was not clear, but The Times of Trenton, N.J., said many were released later in the day

The bus was carrying Army and Air Force troops at the time of the crash.

"I'm grateful our military and civilian first responders have protocols in place for events such as this," Col. Charles Coursey, the base's commander, said in a written statement. "Those responders' actions most-likely saved lives today."
