Penn. mayor arraigned for drunken party

MARCUS HOOK, Pa., March 21 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania judge Thursday set bail at $50,000 for the mayor of a Philadelphia suburb charged with drinking with an underage man at his home.

Mayor James Schiliro of Marcus Hook, Pa., was arraigned Thursday on charges including reckless endangerment, false imprisonment and giving alcohol to a minor.

Schiliro didn't comment on the allegations but his attorney, Michael Malloy, told reporters after the hearing his client planned to fight the charges and that some of the allegations were news to Schiliro.

"The facts will come out differently than they are in the complaint," said Malloy

Schiliro, who has refused to resign, allegedly had a Marcus Hook police officer take a 20-year-old male friend to his home last month where they drank wine together, The Philadelphia Inquirer said, citing court records. Schiliro allegedly asked the young man for sexual favors and also fired a handgun in the residence.

The court documents said the four-term mayor allegedly told his guest he was being held hostage, which caused the man to fear for his life. The Inquirer said the alleged victim, whose name wasn't revealed, had since turned 21 years old.
