ORLANDO, Fla., March 19 (UPI) -- A former student who killed himself at the University of Central Florida had taken steps for a planned massacre before his plans were disrupted, police said.

Investigations said James Oliver Seevakumaran, 30, had several weapons, ammunition, gun magazines and four homemade bombs in his dorm room, ABC News reported. They also found plans for killing as many people as possible.

Officials at the Orlando university said Seevakumaran did not enroll in the spring semester and was about to be forced out of his dorm room. He had been a student from 2010 through the fall semester of 2012.

Seevakumaran allegedly set off a fire alarm just after midnight Monday.

Police said his roommate called 911 a few minutes later and said he had locked himself in a bathroom after Seevakumaran had pointed a gun at him. Police responding to the call heard a shot and found Seevakumaran's body.

Investigators believe Seevakumaran was hoping to open fire and set off the bombs as the dorm was being evacuated.

"What we think is his timeline got off, the rapid response of law enforcement maybe have changed his ability to think quickly on his feet," university Police Chief Richard Beary said.
