Man shoots teen who came in wrong house

STERLING, Va., March 18 (UPI) -- Police say a teen who'd been drinking entered the wrong suburban Virginia house early Sunday and was shot and killed by the homeowner.

The Loudoun County sheriff's office has not released the name of the teenager or that of the man who shot him. No charges have been filed and police have not described the nature of the encounter between the homeowner and the teenager.

The Washington Post said Monday friends dropped the victim off on the quiet cul-de-sac where he lived after they'd been out drinking. Police said the teen tried to gain entry to a home very similar in appearance to his own, on the same side of the street just two doors down from where he lived.

Police are still investigating how the teen got into the neighbor's home around 2:30 a.m. Sunday though initial reports indicate he may have climbed in through a rear window.

Neighbors told the Post the man who owns the home where the teen was shot is a volunteer firefighter who has lived in the neighborhood for nearly a decade. He lives there with his teenage daughter.

Neighbors said the victim's family moved in less than a year ago.
