NEW YORK, March 15 (UPI) -- Former Vice President Dick Cheney, in a Showtime Channel documentary, says he resolutely defends his actions during his time in the White House.

"I did what I did. It's all on the public record and I feel very good about it. If I had to do it over again, I'd do it in a minute," he says in the "The World According to Dick Cheney," which debuts Friday evening.

The two-hour documentary is a biography of Cheney's life, told through his own comments, with a narrator, interviews with journalists and biographers, and commentary by friend and mentor Donald Rumsfeld, former U.S. secretary of defense, CNN said Friday.

In the television program he points out his turnabout, from Yale dropout with drunk driving convictions and no sense of direction to his return to college and White House chief of staff in the Ford Administration, was the result of an ultimatum from his eventual wife Lynne.

She informed him she wouldn't marry someone in his condition, and that did the trick, CNN said.

Missing from the documentary are details of his life after the George W. Bush administration, CNN noted. Cheney, 72, offers no insights on his heart transplant surgery or his decision to support same-sex marriage after his daughter Mary wed her long-time partner Heather Poe in 2012.
