GALLATIN, Tenn., March 13 (UPI) -- A Tennessee jury watched a video Wednesday of a young woman telling a police officer how she killed her newborn twins.

Lindsey Lowe described giving birth in a bathroom in the Hendersonville home she shared with her parents, The Tennessean reported. She told Detective Steve Malach she put a hand over the first baby's mouth until it died and repeated the procedure when the second was born.

Lowe, 26, said she knew she was pregnant but never saw a doctor. She said she did not tell anyone she was expecting a child.

Lowe is charged with first-degree murder, felony murder and child abuse.

In his opening statement Tuesday, Sumner County Assistant District Attorney Ron Blanton said Lowe knew her fiance was not the twins' father. She admitted to the police detective that the father might have been another man she acknowledged having sex with twice.

"She hid the pregnancy because no one was going to interfere with her life," Blanton said. "You will see that these twins never had a chance to live."

John Pellegrin, one of Lowe's attorney, said in his opening that she "disassociated" herself from the pregnancy.
