GRASS VALLEY, Calif., March 13 (UPI) -- A California man was arrested on poisoning and domestic violence charges for allegedly putting Visine in his girlfriend's drink, officials said.

Shayne Carpenter, 27, was arrested last Thursday in Grass Valley by the Nevada County Sheriff's Office after police say he put eye drops in her drink following an argument, causing her to feel ill.

She called police after seeing Carpenter's texts to friends, bragging about the prank, ABC News said Wednesday.

Officials said the unidentified girlfriend was hospitalized and released Thursday. Carpenter was jailed and released on $25,000 bail.
