VICTOR, N.Y., March 12 (UPI) -- Police Tuesday held two people following a nearly 12-hour standoff at a Victor, N.Y., home during which a man allegedly fired shots outside, police said.

The standoff ended Monday evening when the two people inside the house left after police fired tear gas inside, Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero told Rochester's YNN. The police had previously used flash-bangs to light up the neighborhood.

"These are used to not only illuminate, but to distract and disorient persons inside these situations. They caused movement within the residence, into an area we were eventually able to get (tear) gas [inside]," Povero said.

Povero said police received a 911 call Monday morning after a man allegedly came out of the home and fired three shots into vehicles in the driveway. The man then allegedly went back into the home, into the backyard and fired a shot into the air.

The two people, whose names were not reported, didn't have visible injuries and were undergoing medical evaluations, YNN reported.

Throughout the standoff, the neighborhood was on lockdown, meaning those in their homes were told to stay inside and those already out of their homes were not allowed to return. St. Patrick's Church opened its doors to those unable to return home, YNN reported.
