Foreclosure crew cleans out wrong property

COUPLAND, Texas, March 10 (UPI) -- A Texas man said $150,000 worth of items in his barn was mistakenly cleaned out by a crew as part of a foreclosure process on his neighbor's house.

Mike Moors, 53, of Taylor, said Safeguard Properties, an Ohio company CitiMortgage hired to repossess items in December from his next-door neighbor's house in Coupland, took many items, including a boat, a $15,000 backhoe, antique ceramic figurines, his wife's wedding gown and the couple's love letters, the Austin (Texas) American-Statesman reported Friday.

Moors said a fence separates his property from his neighbor's, so he can't understand how the mistake could have been made.

Moors' wife, Janine, said, "When I think about that wedding dress, it makes me so sad that it's gone. Nothing, nothing can replace it."

In January, Moors discovered his property was missing and on Jan. 24 filed a theft report with the Williamson County Sheriff's Office. He said police told him that kind of mistake is frequent but is not a crime and the matter was closed.

Moors said he filed a claim in February with the national Better Business Bureau and that a Safeguard spokeswoman told him, "I promise I will do the right thing."
