WEBSTER, Texas, March 7 (UPI) -- Two men face charges in a Houston-area home invasion and sexual assault in which police say one suspect persuaded the other not to kill their alleged victims.

Police in Webster, Texas, allege the two suspects broke into a home about 4:30 a.m. CST Wednesday and one of them sexually assaulted a woman and her daughter. The two then allegedly tied up the two women and a teenage boy and planned to take them to a field in Alvin, Texas, where the victims were to have been killed, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Webster Police Chief Ray Smiley said it might be Saturday before authorities decide on what charges to bring against the suspects, whose names were not released.

Police said in a release one suspect talked the alleged rapist into sparing the victims' lives, and the two brought the victims back to the house -- where the teenage boy broke free and brandished a gun that belonged to the family, prompting the suspects to flee, as the family called police.

Officers arrived in time to arrest one suspect and observe the other trying to get away in a maroon Chevy Silverado. Police caught up with the driver in Dickinson, Texas, police said.
