Treesh executed in Ohio

LUCASVILLE, Ohio, March 6 (UPI) -- An Indiana man was executed in Ohio Wednesday for the 1994 killing of a security guard during a robbery at an adult bookstore.

Before being put to death at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Lucasville, Frederick Treesh, 48, of Waterloo said he wanted to be remembered as an example of how drugs can ruin a life.

"This is where drugs will lead you. This is true life," he said.

Treesh was executed by lethal injection for killing Henry Dupree, 58, during a robbery in Eastlake, Ohio, The (Willoughby, Ohio) News-Herald reported. He also was found guilty of wounding another man, Louis Lauver, during the holdup, WPTA-TV, Fort Wayne, Ind., reported.

Prosecutors at the trial said Treesh and co-defendant Benjamin Brooks went on a three-day, cocaine-fueled crime spree in six states that concluded in Ohio.

Treesh also was suspected of killing Ghassan Danno, a video store co-owner in Michigan, though he wasn't tried in that case and offered to apology to Danno's relatives who attended his execution.

"I'm not here to say I'm sorry to any of these victims that are here," Treesh said. "I've never been tried, never been charged with that crime. I'm here for Henry Dupree. I apologize to his family for what I've done.

"You want closure? Closure only comes with a book. You close it and put it on a shelf. There is no closure. Every holiday, every birthday, everything, you will think about the victim. So if you want me murdered, just say it."

Treesh's execution was the 50th in Ohio since 1999, the newspaper noted.
