Small plane lands despite gear problems

CAHOKIA, Ill., March 4 (UPI) -- A small plane carrying eight passengers abandoned an effort to land in Cahokia, Ill., opting for Lambert airport in St. Louis because of a landing gear problem.

The Learjet landed at 1:30 p.m. following a flight from Wooster, Ohio. It initially was supposed to land at St. Louis Downtown Airport in Cahokia but diverted to the much larger Lambert-St. Louis International Airport when the landing gear problem became apparent, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported.

The newspaper said the plane, owned by Aerometro LLC of Houston, flew around for a while to burn off fuel before attempting to land.
