Decapitated roosters found in cemetery

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 4 (UPI) -- Residents of a Charlotte, N.C., neighborhood said someone placed several decapitated roosters on headstones at a cemetery, possibly part of a ritual.

The rooster bodies appeared in the South Charlotte graveyard last week, WCCB-TV, Charlotte, reported.

"You feel sorry for the families that that's happening to their grave stones. That's just not right," said Brandy Nunn, a resident.

"When you come home from work and you shut the doors, you sort of don't know what's going on out here," said Dianne Poston.

Poston, who has lived in the neighborhood for 50 years, said she has heard of vandalism at cemeteries, but never something so bizarre.

Ritualistic experts said the birds could have been part of voodoo rite or Santeria -- a Caribbean religion.

"You wonder what they're practicing and if it will get any worse than what it is," Poston said.
