ORLANDO, Fla., March 3 (UPI) -- Students at the University of Central Florida said they are angry about the school's shutdown of Greek social activities.
"Almost all of the Greek organizations adhere to the rules given by UCF," student Elisha Rodriguez said. "But of course one group messes up and ruins it for everyone else."
A hazing expert, Hank Nuwer, said he also believes the school-wide shutdown is unusual, and may drive student Greek activities underground — which may be even more harmful.
"What if you got rid of the entire athletic program because you had a number of teams that were causing problems?" Nuwer said.
The suspension, which was put into place late last month, was made in light of hazing concerns, officials at the school said.
A recent Sigma Chi poster was likely one of the tipping points, The Miami Herald said. The picture shows a new frat member consuming alcohol as part of a hazing incident, and includes two other new frat members vomiting.
"Forcing a pledge to chug while two others puke in misery," the caption reads.
