WASHINGTON, Feb. 28 (UPI) -- Barry Jackson, long-time senior adviser to U.S. House Speaker John Boehner, will join lobbying firm Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck, The Hill reported Thursday.

The hire sends one of Boehner's most trusted aides to one of Washington's top-earning lobby firms, giving it an in with the House Republican majority few other lobbyists can claim, The Hill said.

Jackson's first day as a strategic adviser at the firm is Friday.

Jackson managed Boehner's first House campaign in 1990 and served as Boehner's chief of staff for 10 years. He also worked as a senior aide to former President George W. Bush.

From January 2010 until June, Jackson was Boehner's chief of staff after the Ohio Republican's top aide, Paula Nowakowski, died.
