MARIETTA, Ga., Feb. 27 (UPI) -- A sheriff's deputy says a Georgia man charged with threatening to kill a judge's family and eat his children had made some preparations.

The deputy testified Tuesday at a bail hearing in Cobb County for James Satterfield, 58, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported. The deputy said Satterfield had told relatives to give away his possessions and had a gun in his van when he was arrested, WSB-TV said.

Satterfield, who was arrested in December, was refused bail. A judge brought in from Douglas County also ordered a psychiatric evaluation.

Cobb County Superior Court Judge Reuben Green, who presided over Satterfield's divorce, received a letter with the threats. The writer said he would cook the children before eating them so they would be "more palatable."

Prosecutors say Satterfield was angry about Green's handling of the divorce.
