Two Americans missing in Peru

OAKLAND, Calif., Feb. 25 (UPI) -- An Oakland, Calif., couple, on a bicycle trip through South America, have been missing for a month, friends and family say.

Jamie Neal, 27, and her boyfriend Garrett Hand, 25, on a tour of Argentina, Peru and Chile since November, were last seen in Lima Jan. 26. The couple's trip had been documented through frequent updates on Neal's Facebook page, the last of which appeared Jan. 25 as they traveled through the Cuzco area of Peru, the Bay Area Newsgroup reported Monday.

"It's unlike her to disappear," said Ron Hammer, a co-worker of Neal's who has been following the couple's trip. "They were always having updates on their Facebook page and emailing and calling people."

The U.S. Embassy in Lima advised Americans Feb. 13 of a potential kidnapping threat by an unnamed criminal organization in the Cuzco area, reporting the threat to be "credible at least through the end of February."
