Mafia racketeer Fazzino gets prison time

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 25 (UPI) -- Philadelphia-area mafia figure Louis Fazzini was sentenced Monday to 55 months in federal prison for racketeering.

The U.S. attorney's office said in a release Fazzini, 46, of Caldwell, N.J., was given the prison time for his participation in a racketeering conspiracy involving illegal gambling and theft from an employee benefit plan.

Fazzini, who pleaded guilty in October, also was sentenced to serve three years of supervised release following his incarceration.

He has admitted that, as a "made" member of the North Jersey crew of the Philadelphia La Cosa Nostra family, he operated a sports bookmaking business and devised a fraudulent scheme to obtain health benefits through a "no show" job controlled by the crime organization.
