Officials at Mount Vernon said philanthropist David Rubenstein's donation helped them surpass their fundraising goal of $100 million for the project, The (Norfolk) Virginian-Pilot reported.
The National Library for the Study of George Washington is scheduled to open Sept. 27 and will be a center for scholarly research and leadership training for government, military, non-profit and corporate officials, as well as students and educators. The largest meeting hall in the library will be named after Rubenstein.
Rubenstein said Washington's character and qualities provide a timeless example of leadership.
