Dad who drowned sons gets death penalty
ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Feb. 23 (UPI) -- An Alaska woman and her son were charged Friday with shipping marijuana to Anchorage in cars sent north by boat.
Julie Bourbeau, 55, and John-Wesley McIntyre, 33, of Anchorage were arrested Tuesday after she picked up a 1991 Cadillac that had been shipped from Tacoma, Wash., the Anchorage Daily News reported. Customs agents said they found 80 pounds of marijuana wrapped in plastic bags and concealed in sleeping bags in the car.
Before the car was shipped to the Port of Anchorage on a barge, the agents replaced the marijuana with fake drugs and installed a tracking device. Agents raided McIntyre's house in Anchorage after getting a signal the trunk had been opened.
A federal grand jury in Anchorage handed up an indictment Friday charging Bourbeau and McIntyre with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.
Documents filed in court say agents found drug paraphernalia in McIntyre's house, along with a ledger showing thousands of dollars made on drug sales. Bourbeau allegedly admitted she had shipped four cars to Alaska with drugs.
