ATLANTA, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A crash in northeast Georgia closed all northbound lanes Friday on Interstate 85 and injured 12 people riding in a recreational vehicle, state police said.

The Georgia State Patrol said the crash occurred just before 6 a.m. when the driver of the RV lost control, hit a cable barrier, crossed back over the highway and went down an embankment, ending up on its side, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

There were 14 people in the RV and 12 were hurt.

The northbound lanes of I-85 remained closed in Jackson County northeast of Atlanta into the afternoon. The highway is a major artery that runs through the Atlanta area, connecting it with Montgomery, Ala., and Charlotte, N.C.

Two of the injured were taken to Athens Regional Medical Center and the others in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
