OKLAHOMA CITY, Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A medical helicopter crashed early Friday in northwest Oklahoma City, killing two crew members and critically injuring a third, police said.

The helicopter fell between a nursing home and retirement center around 5:30 a.m. after leaving a hospital and heading for a base in Watonga, but neither building was damaged, KWTV-TV in Oklahoma City reported.

Three nurses from the nursing home and passersby helped pull the third crew member from the wreckage just before the helicopter exploded, CBS News reported.

The surviving crew member was hospitalized in critical condition.

The condition of a person who was injured while helping rescue the crew member was not known.
