Quebec students strip-searched during exam
CALEXICO, Calif., Feb. 22 (UPI) -- A man was arrested for trying to sneak $440,000 worth of cocaine past a border checkpoint at Calexico, Calif., U.S. Homeland Security officials said.
The nearly 37 pounds of cocaine was hidden in panels of the man's 1999 Jeep Cherokee, officials said.
The Los Angeles Times said the 29-year-old Calexico resident, whose name was not released, was stopped while trying to enter the United States from Mexico Tuesday morning when a customs officer noticed he was nervous.
Drug-sniffing dogs and X-ray equipment found the cocaine, the Times reported.
The man was being held at the Imperial County Jail.
