SAN AUGUSTINE, Texas, Feb. 20 (UPI) -- A mother and daughter from Texas were sentenced to prison for kidnapping a Houston boy when he was a baby and hiding him for eight years, officials said.

Gloria Walker, 51, was sentenced to Tuesday to concurrent terms of 30 years for injury to a child and eight years for kidnapping Tuesday, USA Today reported. Walker's daughter, Krystle Tanner, 26, was given concurrent sentences of eight years of kidnapping and eight years for reckless injury to a child.

Walker faced a possible sentence of life in prison, while Tanner faced a maximum of 20 years.

Prosecutors in San Augustine, Texas, said Tanner was a babysitter for the child, Miguel Morin, and took him from his home when he was 8 months old in 2004.

Tanner and Walker renamed the boy and kept him out of school, USA Today said.

They told the court they boy's mother had given the child to them.

Authorities began investigating Tanner after her newborn son tested positive for marijuana in 2010, USA Today said.

Miguel has been placed with foster parents who have taken care of his four siblings for nine years as part of an agreement with the biological parents, USA Today reported.
