252 pounds of marijuana seized, man held

CANTON, Mass., Feb. 20 (UPI) -- Thomas Jin Kim of Brooklyn, N.Y., was arrested after taking possession of 151 pounds of marijuana delivered to him at a Canton, Mass., shipping office.

Kim, 30, pleaded not guilty to two counts of trafficking marijuana at his arraignment Tuesday in Stoughton, Mass., District Court, and was held on $400,000 bail, the Quincy, Mass., Patriot-Ledger reported Wednesday.

The marijuana arrived from California in four identical shipping boxes, each marked "Fragile." Employees of the shipping company, R&L Carriers, opened a box after becoming suspicious, and found what looked like marijuana, packed in vacuum-sealed, one-pound bags, a police report said.

Kim was arrested without incident Friday after he signed for the delivery and loaded it into a van, the Boston Herald said Wednesday.

Four more boxes, packaged identically to Friday's delivery and addressed to Kim, arrived Saturday. A total of 252 pounds of marijuana, valued at nearly $1 million, was seized, the report said.

The investigation is now focused on who sent the marijuana from California, Canton police chief Kenneth Berkowitz said.
