KALAMAZOO, Mich., Feb. 19 (UPI) -- Three young children have died in a Michigan house fire, prompting a fire chief to call the incident "one of the worst days of my life."

Twins Tevin and Tinya Williams, 3, and Tyonna Henderson, 1 died after becoming trapped in a residential fire at the Interfaith Homes neighborhood of northern Kalamazoo, the Kalamazoo (Mich.) Gazette reported Tuesday.

All three of the children died at the scene.

Speaking to city commissioners several hours after the blaze, Kalamazoo Public Safety Department Chief Jeff Hadley described Monday as "probably one of the worst days of my life, ... when you have to sit across from the mother and tell her that three of her children are deceased."

The children had been left alone, police said.

Both the criminal investigative division and the fire marshal were investigating the incident, Hadley said.
