Poll: What Obama should say in SOTU

WASHINGTON, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- If he wants immigration reform, U.S. President Obama should not mention a path to citizenship in his State of the Union, a Washington Post poll indicated.

Although seven in 10 people in the survey said they would support a path to citizenship as part of immigration reform, when the same question was asked with Obama's name attached, support fell to 59 percent, results released Tuesday indicated.

Obama gives his State of the Union address Tuesday evening before a joint session of Congress.

Obama's name attached to issues such as banning the sale of semi-automatic assault weapons or ending the war in Afghanistan was viewed more favorably, so his use of the bully pulpit could increase their chances of passing Congress, the Post said.

No noticeable change was noted on the issue of climate change, the Post said.

Particulars about the poll's sample, dates of contact and margin of error were not readily available.
