Feb. 10, 2013 at 11:29 AM

CHICAGO, Feb. 10 (UPI) -- A man jailed in Illinois on charges he raped an 11-year-old allegedly tried to hire someone to kill the girl and two of her family members, authorities said.

Brian Thurman, 28, of suburban Chicago allegedly attempted to hire a hit man to kill the girl, her 16-year-old sister and her mother after he was jailed in mid-January on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault, the Chicago Tribune reported Sunday, and was held in lieu of $480,000 bail.

On Jan. 29, Thurman asked another inmate to find someone to kill the three, the Cook County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities said Thurman was given the phone number of an undercover investigator posing as a hit man the next day.

He offered the investigator his sport utility vehicle and $8,000, the sheriff's office said, for killing the three "as soon as possible."

The Tribune said Thurman was charged with attempted murder for hire and solicitation of murder for hire.
