CUMBERLAND CENTER, Maine, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A posting on social media of high school girls' basketball players in Maine offering a Nazi salute has led to disciplinary action, the school principal said.
In the undated photograph, two standing members of the Greely High School girls basketball team face each other with one arm raised in the Nazi greeting posture, while a third is seated, offering peace signs with her hands. Each player is in her basketball uniform, the Portland Press Herald reported Thursday.
A letter sent by school administrators to parents Monday referred to "inappropriate and biased language used by members of the team," and noted one player was nicknamed "Hitler."
"These are unacceptable behaviors at MSAD 51 [Maine School Administrative District No. 51], at Greely High School and for student athletes," Superintendent Robert Hasson said.
Greely Principal Dan McKeone said the photo prompted a meeting that included the players, the coach, administrators and a school social worker.
McKeone said players were disciplined but was not specific, the newspaper reported.
