Man wears KKK outfit to dramatize crime

PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A black Philadelphian says he appeared downtown dressed in a Ku Klux Klan robe to dramatize the carnage of black-on-black crime in the city.

Sixx King, 35, carried a sign saying the Klan killed 3,446 blacks in 86 years, KYW-TV reported. He cited FBI figures that show more blacks are now homicide victims in the United States every six months.

He was joined by Javes Phelps-Washington, whose son, Christopher, was killed in 2011 when he was in his second year in college. Philadelphia has had one of the country's highest homicide rates in recent years, and police say 85 percent of the victims are black.

"We're bringing awareness to the black hypocrisy, complacency and apathy in the African-American community," King told KYW.

Councilman Curtis Jones Jr. said he was angry when he spotted King wearing a white robe and hood. But he said King has a valid message.

"You have to sit back and digest his message," Jones said. "Sit back and understand the mother who was carrying the picture of her child. It's not a statistic. It's a human being with a name who will be missed."

Jones posted a picture of King and Phelps-Washington on Facebook, getting mixed reactions.
