SAN JOSE, Calif., Feb. 7 (UPI) -- A handcuffed suspect in San Jose, Calif., police custody stole a police van Wednesday while his arresting officer was distracted by paperwork, authorities said.

Anthony Sanchez, 32, of San Jose was able to move his handcuffs from behind his back to his front, jump into the driver's seat and make off with the unmarked police van, KGO-TV, San Francisco, reported.

Police spokesman Sgt. Jason Dwyer said the van was found 2 hours later near Almaden Expressway and Wren Drive. Nothing was stolen from the van, but Sanchez, who had been arrested on outstanding warrants, remained at large, Dwyer said.
