SAN ANTONIO, Feb. 7 (UPI) -- The FBI has arrested a Texas man who fled to Mexico in 2009 after allegedly stealing $107,601 from an Austin-area bank where he worked as a teller.
FBI agents in San Antonio said they arrested Pedro Godinez Tuesday. Federal prosecutors said Godinez returned from Mexico voluntarily to face charges, the San Antonio Express-News reported.
Investigators said surveillance footage from the Bank of America branch where Godinez worked showed him removing currency from the vault and exiting the branch carrying a Bank of America money pouch Jan. 29, 2009, the newspaper said.
A bank official told FBI investigators a Jan. 30, 2009, audit determined $80,000 in cash was missing from the vault and Godinez's cash drawer was short $27,601.
Godinez was released Wednesday to his mother's custody, prosecutors said.
