LOS ANGELES, Feb. 6 (UPI) -- Los Angeles County prosecutors said they are prepared to retry Bobby Joe Maxwell, accused of being the notorious Skid Row Stabber in the 1970s.
Court records unsealed this week indicate Maxwell has been indicted on murder charges involving the slayings of three men, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.
Maxwell, who has spent more than 30 years in prison, was tried for 10 deaths in 1984 but the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned two of his convictions in 2010.
The appeals court ruled a key witness in the case, a jailhouse informant, had a long history of dishonesty.
In addition to the three indictments returned by the grand jury, prosecutors said they are prepared to retry Maxwell on two other murder charges on which the jury deadlocked in 1984.
Maxwell has remained in prison since his successful appeal.
Deputy District Attorney Bobby Grace said Tuesday the Maxwell case involves no new evidence but grand jurors believed there was enough to indict him without the testimony of the jailhouse informant.
