HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 5 (UPI) -- Pennsylvania's attorney general Monday appointed H. Geoffrey Moulton Jr. to lead the investigation into the handling of the Jerry Sandusky child abuse case.
"Mr. Moulton is a highly respected former federal prosecutor who will assist us in providing a comprehensive and independent examination of the facts surrounding the handling of the Sandusky investigation," Attorney General Kathleen Kane said in a statement. "Once the facts have been uncovered, my office will make these findings available to the public."
Moulton, who was a federal prosecutor for eight years and also served as a Supreme Court law clerk, will serve as a special deputy attorney general with the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, reporting directly to Kane.
Sandusky, 68, is serving a 30- to 60-year sentence in a state prison outside Waynesburg. He was convicted on 45 counts of child sexual abuse for molesting boys for years, sometimes on the Penn State University campus. The scandal led to the ouster of highly successful head Coach Joe Paterno, who died of cancer just months after the scandal broke, and costly lawsuits and NCAA sanctions and against the school.
