FORT WORTH, Texas, Feb. 4 (UPI) -- A fire at a large stable in northwest Fort Worth, Texas, early Monday killed 11 horses, officials said.

Firefighters managed to put out the fire despite strong winds and some difficulty accessing parts of the three-building complex, The Dallas Morning News reported.

One firefighter suffered minor burns to his hands as he worked to free the horses, officials said.

Eight horses were saved, The (Fort Worth) Star-Telegram reported, but one of them was not expected to survive because of severe burns, officials said.
