SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- Police in San Francisco have begun enforcing the city's new ban on public nudity, starting with four naked activists they found in front of City Hall.

The four activists were slapped with $100 citations Friday after they stripped down in front of City Hall and failed to take advantage of police officers' 15-minute warning period to put their clothes back on, the Los Angeles Times reported.

"Freedom of expression is dead in this country," the San Francisco Chronicle quoted one of them, George Davis, 30, as shouting when he was placed in a police van.

Enforcement follows a federal judge's dismissal Tuesday of a lawsuit filed by the birthday suit activists, who contend the ordinance violates their 1st Amendment rights to bare it all.
