Arias sobs at photo of bloodied victim

MESA, Ariz., Jan. 31 (UPI) -- A prosecutor in the trial of a woman charged with killing her ex-boyfriend shocked the Arizona courtroom when he held up a photo of the victim's slashed throat.

The display of the bloody image came on the second day of the trial of Jodi Arias, 33, ABC News reported Wednesday.

The Yreka, Calif., woman is accused of stabbing Travis Alexander, 30, 27 times, slitting his throat, and shooting him twice in the head in a jealous rage at his home in 2008.

Prosecutor Juan Martinez showed the image as he questioned Lisa Daidone, who dated Alexander in 2007 after he had broken up with Arias but was still sleeping with her.

"Do you think that even with everything they claimed he put you through, do you think it is appropriate to take a knife and slash somebody's throat?" Martinez yelled to Daidone.

"Is this what a normal relationship looks like to you?" he asked, displaying the photo.

The picture drew an audible reaction from those in the courtroom, including Arias, who began sobbing.

Judge Sherry Stephens called for a recess, but cautioned audience members on return to be silent.

Martinez' questioning of Daidone attempted to disprove accusations by the defense that Alexander was an aggressive, sex-obsessed cheater.

Under questioning by defense lawyers, Daidone testified Alexander had asked her to marry him, but she had broken off her relationship with Alexander several times because of suspicions he was cheating on her.
