PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 31 (UPI) -- Nine current and former Philadelphia Traffic Court judges and three others have been charged in an alleged ticket-fixing scam.

The nine judges, six of whom were Philadelphia judges while the other three were suburban district court judges who sometimes filled in for Philadelphia Traffic Court judges, were charged by the U.S. Attorney Thursday as part of a corruption indictment, The Philadelphia Inquirer reported. Three others -- including a former traffic court administrator -- also were charged.

All 12 people are accused of ticket-fixing and other forms of corruption at the traffic court.

An investigation called for by Pennsylvania Supreme Court Chief Justice Ronald D. Castille last year allegedly found evidence the traffic court routinely fixed tickets for the politically connected.
