FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 30 (UPI) -- The 21-year-old grandson of oil and gas businessman T. Boone Pickens died after being driven in a private car to a Fort Worth, Texas, hospital, officials said.

Thomas Boone Pickens IV, who went by the name "Ty," died Tuesday, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said. No cause of death was reported.

Ty was a junior at Texas Christian University, majoring in strategic communication, TCU 360, the student media website indicated.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of this member of our community, and our hearts and thoughts are with Ty's family at this time," Kathy Cavins-Tull, TCU vice chancellor for student affairs, said in a statement.

Sharon Neal, a Fort Worth police spokesman, said it "is now a death investigation."

"We're looking into all aspects," she said.
