PUNTA GORDA, Fla., Jan. 29 (UPI) -- A body found in a car in a Florida canal has been identified as that of a woman reported missing almost 20 years ago in the so-called Snoburd case, police said.
Frances Hendrickson, 64, is believed to have been killed when she drove into the canal in Punta Gorda, The (Sarasota) Herald-Tribune reported. Police said she had been described as a bad driver.
The search for Hendrickson, which began when she was reported missing in June 1993, became known as the "Snoburd case" because the license plates on her blue Buick sedan read "SNOBURD." Police searched canals in the area with divers and sonar but found no trace of her.
Two years ago, local police acquired more advanced sonar that can detect objects buried in mud. That paid off two weeks ago.
The remains in the car were identified as Hendrickson's through dental records.
