CARSON CITY, Nev., Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A Nevada legislator charged with threatening to kill the incoming Assembly speaker made a quick trip to the legislative building to fill out paperwork.

Assemblyman Steven Brooks, a Democrat from Las Vegas, sits on the Ways and Means Committee, which was holding a hearing Wednesday on the governor's proposed budget, the Las Vegas Sun reported. He did not join the hearing, where his alleged target, Speaker-elect Marilyn Kirkpatrick, also a Democrat, was sitting on the dais.

Brooks was arrested Saturday when police found a gun in his car during a traffic stop. He had allegedly threatened to kill Kirkpatrick because he was unhappy with his committee assignments.

During his trip to Carson City Wednesday, Brooks appeared to be trying to disguise himself. He was wearing a hoodie and dark glasses and walking with a cane.

His only response to questions from reporters was "no comment."

Brooks met with legislative staff and filled out paperwork for housing during the upcoming session, staffers said.
