NEW ORLEANS, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- Former New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin's arraignment on bribery and conspiracy charges was rescheduled for three weeks after its original date, a judge ordered.

It was pushed back to Feb. 20 by order of U.S. District Judge Ginger Berrigan, to whom the case was assigned, from Jan. 31, a date immediately before the weekend New Orleans hosts the Super Bowl and its media attention, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reported Thursday.

A grand jury Friday charged Nagin, who left office in 2010, with 21 counts of bribery, wire fraud, conspiracy and filing false income tax returns.

Nagin has maintained his innocence, although Robert Jenkins, his lawyer, has said he has been involved in possible plea discussions with authorities for his client.
