Fla. man charged after injections sicken

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla., Jan. 23 (UPI) -- A Florida man set up an illegal plastic surgery operation in a motel room where he injected silicone into customers' buttocks, authorities allege.

Palm Beach County deputies allege Calvin E. Butler injected people on several occasions between July and October in a room at El Patio Motel in West Palm Beach and several of the 44-year-old Pahokee man's subjects required medical attention after falling ill, The Palm Beach Post reported Wednesday.

One woman said Butler, also known as Tamieka Butler, gave her injections four times in September and October and used "Krazy Glue" to seal incisions he made. When she reported painful "nodules" in the injection area, Butler told her to take warm baths and massage the area. In November, the woman told deputies, she developed open oozing wounds on her buttocks.

She was treated at a hospital and received antibiotics, but later was readmitted. She was treated for swelling of the lymph nodes caused by a bacterial infection.

A male customer alleged Butler, who authorities say is unlicensed, charged him a discounted price of $100 for injections because they were friends. The man also required hospital treatment afterward. Doctors were forced to remove part of his buttocks. Testing of the removed flesh found the man had developed MRSA.

Deputies are asking anyone else treated by Butler to contact them.
