PALO ALTO, Calif., Jan. 21 (UPI) -- An Alameda, Calif., man was given a seven-year prison term for burglarizing local homes, including that of the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs.

Kariem McFarlin, 35, a former San Jose State University football player, pleaded no contest in Santa Clara County Superior Court in November to eight felony counts of residential burglary and one felony count of selling stolen property, court documents said..

Deputy district attorney Tom Flattery said victims of McFarlin's crimes were satisfied by the sentence handed down Thursday by Judge Thang Nguyen Barrett, and said of McFarlin's contrite behavior in court, "I think we got his attention. I don't think he will be a problem in the future."

McFarlin's burglary spree began in March 2011 and eventually spanned four Bay Area counties, prosecutors said.

On the night of July 17, 2012, he looted Jobs' former residence, taking $60,000 worth of Tiffany & Co. jewelry, several Apple products, kitchen appliances and Jobs' California driver's license, the Bay Area News Group said Monday.
